Background Information
Safeguarding adults means protecting an individual’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. Safeguarding Adults is everyone’s responsibility. Timely, accurate and well-constructed referrals help agencies work together to keep adults with care and support needs safe. 

Course Aims and Objectives
This course aims to equip practitioners with a knowledge and understanding of their role as a referrer within the Oldham Safeguarding Adults Board (OSAB) Multi-Agency Adult Safeguarding Policy & Procedures and to enable them to apply these to making a Safeguarding Adult Referral and completing the online referral form. This course is suitable for practitioners from statutory and non-statutory services supporting 'Adults at Risk of Harm' in a range of settings across Oldham. This session will:

  • Outline the statutory safeguarding framework in the Care Act 2014 and the function of the OSAB Multi-Agency Adult Safeguarding Policy and Procedures 
  • Explain when a Safeguarding Adult Referral should be raised and how to make a Professional Safeguarding Adult Referral 
  • Provide an overview of potential questions a referrer may be asked 
  • Define the principles of information sharing
  • Explain the processes that are followed after a Safeguarding Adult Referral has been received.
