Launched by the Marmalade Trust, this week (12–18 June 2023) is Loneliness Awareness Week. A week is dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness and getting people talking about it, across the UK and beyond.

When someone is lonely, they can take more risks and make different decisions to those they would usually make. Being lonely can increase an individual’s risk of abuse or neglect.

It is important that people are made to feel that they can speak about feeling lonely, and that they are made aware of initiatives to tackle feelings of loneliness and how to get support from services should they need it.

Find out more by reading our new OSAB 7-Minute Briefing focused on Loneliness. 7-Minute Briefings are based on research which suggests that seven minutes is an ideal time span in which to concentrate and learn. Learning for 7 minutes is manageable in most services and often more memorable as it is necessarily brief and not clouded by other issues and pressures. These short, safeguarding snapshots can be a helpful way to support team learning.
