This CPD session explores the nature and impact of hate crime, examining how prejudice, stereotypes, and discrimination can contribute to hostile behaviours and criminal acts. Participants will develop an understanding of how hate incidents and hate crimes affect victims, communities, and wider society, whilst recognising the role that professionals can play in identifying, reporting, and challenging such behaviour.

 Effectively addressing hate crime is essential for promoting community cohesion and preventing tensions from escalating. When hate crime is left unchallenged, it can reinforce harmful narratives, normalise discriminatory attitudes, and deepen divisions between communities. These divisions can create environments where grievances, real or perceived injustices, and feelings of exclusion become more pronounced.
